My Story

Audrey + George was born circa 2010 and started out as a vintage bag business where I (Rhiannon) used to buy wholesale bags and resell on eBay. I had just finished a fashion degree and was looking to carve out a path for myself whilst working in retail to pay the bills. The name came to me through my love of the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s where the main characters Holly & Paul were played by the actors Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. The bag business was a bit of a non-starter but skip forward nearly 10 years later September 2019 and i’m ready for a new project.

The creative maker side of me is still alive and i’m itching for something new that will help me save a little bit extra for a house as well as being a creative outlet from time to time. Always having loved big costume jewellery and in particular earrings, I decided to buy myself an inexpensive clay kit to experiment and see if i could make anything of use. The first few results turned out better than i could have expected and I fell quickly into making, morning, noon and night. Needing a name for the business i put to my friends a selection of names, including my old vintage bag business; Audrey + George got the lions share of the votes and so it was reborn.

I take inspiration from the world around me but my biggest influences are art, nail design, ceramics, soaps, fashion past & present and embroidery. Like my own personal style which is very varied, i have earrings that are big, bold and bright but then other pairs that are more muted, neutral and subdued, there are even pairs that were born to DISCO. I believe in changing up your look day to day, EXPERIMENTING and having fun with what you wear. It’s because of this ethos, that i truly feel there is an earring for everyone.

My friends have been a huge part of the process from the very first step, encouraging, helping me and so it only felt right that i named each of the first pairs of earrings after them. To this day every single pair is named after a strong female who has made an impression on my life in some small way. It’s been an interesting process so far, there’s been down times but far more ups, the business is constantly evolving and improving and i’m so excited to see what the future holds for Audrey + George.
